Their 2015 vintage sees the introduction of an intriguing white blend of Chardonnay, Roussanne, Verdelho, Chenin blanc, Viognier and Muscat Blanc; they named it Hemelrand… the edge of Heaven (we’ll let you know, seen as it's sold out).
Champions of South African white wine varietals, which they argue were being planted in the Compagnie Tuin some time before there was ever any Cabernet Sauvignon growing in the Medoc, these are white wines for the cellar. Made from hand selected, old bushvine vineyards that reflect a True Cape (not Tru-Cape) flavour - which, given our penchant for a good story seems promising. While excited about the new blend, it was the Cartology (one of THE Chenin-Semillon blends) and the Magnetic North (a single-vineyard bushvine Chenin) we were waiting for. We trust you’re aware of their respective pedigrees, but would be remiss if we didn’t tell you that this vintage of Cartology has been billed their best ever by Chris Alheit himself… as if we had to give you any more ammunition.
On the back of the label it reads: “A tribute to those who went off in search of treasure and found a diamond in the rough.”
