Charles Winshaw

The wine complements dishes like roast beef, steak and other red meats.

All grapes come from our farm in Stellenbosch. All the vineyards were trellised. All grapes are harvested by hand in individual bins and then transported to the cellar.

The grapes were naturally fermented in open fermenters. Each varietal was fermented separately. The wine spent a total of 12 months in French oak barrels. All the barrels were 225 L and 300 L. There was a total of 30% new oak used and the remainder comprised of 2nd and 3rd fill barrels.

The story of Winshaw Vineyards is one of adventure, pioneering spirit, and family heritage. It began with Dr. William Charles Winshaw, a man whose remarkable life took him from cowboy to Texas Ranger, gambler, and ultimately, winemaker in the Stellenbosch Valley. In 1925, he founded Stellenbosch Farmers Winery (SFW) laying the foundation for a legacy that would span generations. Alongside his son Bill, the Winshaws helped establish many iconic rands like Chataue Libertas, Tassenberg and Zonnebloem that are still with us today. Now, the fourth generation of Winshaws proudly carries forward this tradition, producing wines on the farm and vineyards planted by their father, the late John Winshaw. Nestled on the South Western side of Stellenbosch, near the Eerste River and just a stone’s throw from the ocean. With every bottle, we honour the adventurous spirit and commitment to quality that defined our forebears. From our responsibly raised grass-fed beef and pasture-raised eggs to our carefully crafted wines, every product tells a story of our land.
