The grapes for the Vergelegen V 2020 are sourced from vineyards situated on the west-to-northwest facing inland slopes of the Schaapenberg. These vineyards benefit from a slightly warmer maritime climate, allowing for full fruit ripeness without excessively high sugar levels. The soil consists of Hutton and Glenrosa, which are well-drained and help limit vine vigour, enhancing the quality of the fruit​.

The Vergelegen V 2020 was matured in 100% new French oak barrels for 18 months, followed by additional bottle aging. The wine can mature gracefully for up to 20 years​.

The grapes are hand-picked and fermented in closed tanks at temperatures ranging from 25-28°C. Post-fermentation, the wine underwent maceration for 56 days to extract maximum flavor and color. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel, after which the wine was transferred to 100% new French oak barrels for maturation​.
