Luck of the Gambler Pinot Gris

It is a versatile food wine. Its freshness will pair well with fresh seafood but the umami notes add another dimension into Asian inspired foods.

All the grapes came from a block on our farm, Klein Welmoed in Stellenbosch. All the vineyards are trellised. All grapes are harvested by hand in individual bins in optimal conditions to ensure true quality from beginning to end.

The wine was aged for a further 10 months in a combination op predominantly old French oak barrels and a fermentation egg.

This is a skin contact Pinot Gris. To give this wine its gorgeous copper colour, 70% of the grapes were destemmed and naturally fermented on their skins for 12 days. The remaining 30% was whole bunch fermented for 8 days.

Usana is situated in the beautiful and historic Stellenbosch Wine Region on Klein Welmoed the Winshaw Family farm. The Winshaws have been farming on Klein Welmoed for forty-four years; over the past few years the family has diversified the farm by introducing the Usana produce. This new venture boasts a portfolio of four wines; Cabernet Sauvignon Sauvignon Blanc Pinot Gris and a barrel fermented Chenin Blanc.
