The Grapesmith Mediterraneo

The Grapesmith Mediterraneo pairs beautifully with dishes such as grilled fish, poultry in creamy sauces, blue cheese, and even mild curries.

The blend is made from Mediterranean grape varieties that are well-suited to Stellenbosch’s climate. These include 39% Marsanne, 37% Roussanne, 22% Grenache Blanc, and 2% Verdelho. The vineyards benefit from the cooling maritime influences from the Atlantic, making them ideal for growing these drought-resistant varieties​.

This wine has a recommended aging potential through 2024, with its crispness and complexity continuing to evolve.

The wine underwent fermentation in 225- and 400-liter French oak barrels, spending 11 months on the primary lees with occasional stirring (battonage) to enhance texture and complexity. No malolactic fermentation was done, ensuring the wine retains its vibrant freshness.

Simonsig Wine Estate is synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry, the Stellenbosch wine region, and the Malan family name. These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved Kaapse Vonkel, South Africaʼs first Méthode Cap Classique made in the classic bottle-fermented style. He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Francois-Jacques, Christelle and Michael, the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations at Simonsig Wine Estate.
