The Grapesmith Die Kluisenaar

This blend pairs excellently with poached lobster, grilled seafood, or rich poultry dishes. It also complements aged cheeses such as Gruyere​.

The grapes are grown in the Stellenbosch region, where the vineyards benefit from the cooling breezes from False Bay and the unique decomposed granite soils of the Simonsberg slopes. Both Marsanne and Roussanne were harvested in February 2020 at optimal ripeness (22° Balling) and were handled with care, including cooling and whole bunch pressing to retain the purity of the fruit.

The wine was fermented and matured for 11 months in a combination of older oak barrels and clay amphora. No malolactic fermentation was allowed, preserving the wine's fresh fruit character and crisp acidity. The wine also underwent bâtonnage (lees stirring) to enhance texture​.

Simonsig Wine Estate is synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry, the Stellenbosch wine region, and the Malan family name. These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved Kaapse Vonkel, South Africaʼs first Méthode Cap Classique made in the classic bottle-fermented style. He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Francois-Jacques, Christelle and Michael, the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations at Simonsig Wine Estate.
