Gerookte Snoek Red

Seafood and red meat.

These Vineyards were planted on Table Mountain Sandstone just outside of Citrusdal on a 600 meter slope. The 2025 Gerookte Snoek Red is a single vineyard bottling of the Grenache mutation Garnacha Peluda or Lledoner Pelut. It’s other name is hairy Grenache because of the hairs on the bottom of it’s leaves.

Malolactic fermentation naturally occurred and the wine was left on the gross lees after malo to age for 12 months.

Grapes were picked early in the morning to preserve freshness, then cooled down, before 70% were destemmed and 30% wholebunches added to an open top fermenter to start wild fermentation. After three weeks of fermentation the grapes were pressed with a basket press to two 228 liter Burgundian barrels to finish fermentation.

A small town Weskus boytjie making wines of substance, with a true reflection of terroir and personality, and a little bohemian twist. Sakkie Mouton is the epitome of the classic West Coast maverick or perhaps the West Coast misfit to use his own words. But whatever descriptives you use to describe his unique brand of winemaking and marketing, there is no denying this young man’s incredible talent, passion and vision. Almost uniquely, despite his enviable and obvious rock star talents, he has never been too confident or arrogant to dismiss advice or unwilling to alter course in the name of producing the very best possible end product.
