Rust En Vrede
Established in 1694 Rust en Vrede is proud to be part of a remarkable three hundred year old wine tradition. Since 1977 the Engelbrecht family has specialized in the exclusive production of red wine with the focus on Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Proprietor Jean Engelbrecht has worked to establish Rust en Vrede as one of South Africa’s premium red wine estates with full-bodied and complex wines that reflect the uniqueness of the Helderberg terroir.
Description
The 2017 Rust en Vrede 1694 Classification reveals pronounced aromas of red and black cherries, with cassis and hints of cedar. On the palate, flavors of blackberry, cherry, cumin, and ground coriander unfold, supported by fine tannins and a backbone of cedar spice, vanilla, and liquorice. The wine is rich and concentrated, yet well-balanced, providing a long and elegant finish.
Food Pairing
This robust wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted lamb, beef dishes, and hearty stews. It also complements well-seasoned meat dishes, including Moroccan-style lamb.
