White Series Sauvignon Blanc

If chilled, this wine is perfect on its own. The QR Sauvignon Blanc will be excellent with chicken and fish dishes as well as sushi.

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from two vineyards on Boskloof, in the Cape Agulhas region, where the vines grow in Bokkeveld, Koffieklip and gravel soils. Known for its cool climate, the vineyards on Boskloof are constantly exposed to a cool breeze from the Atlantic Ocean. Grapes from both vineyards were harvested to add to the complexity of this wine.

We stir the wines on the fine lees in the tanks to gain complexity until we are happy with the volume. We then rack the wine off the lees and age it in a variety of tanks and 500-litre barrels for approximately four months before we blend and bottle the wine.

We use small-batch winemaking to enable us to identify and blend the best of the batches and to deliver exceptional wine. With this QR Sauvignon Blanc, the specific terroir is showcased extremely well as it delivers fresh apple and flinty characters. To preserve the freshness and delicate aromas we harvested and processed the grapes in the early morning hours.

The name Quoin Rock found its inspiration from the Agulhas area the most southern tip of Africa where Quoin Point is the second most southernly point and where Quoin Rock Wines’ conservation farm Boskloof is located. Ships rounding the cape on their way back from or to markets in the east from the mid-1400’s to these modern times would stop over at the cape of good hope — todays Table Bay Harbour Cape Town to replenish their boats with fresh produce. Farms like Quoin Rock would rush produce to the harbour and from the late 1660’s wines from South Africa started forming part of the goods delivered to the port. Now just over 350 years later South African wines are still exported from Table Bay harbour. While wine production is the main activity at Quoin Rock in Stellenbosch the Agulhas farm Boskloof focuses on conservation. Bontebok springbok eland and zebra have been reintroduced to this area.
