Our Paserene Wine Range is made from grapes sourced from wine farms in Tulbagh, Elgin, and Franschhoek. We focus on quality attention-to-detail when it comes to our luxury Paserene Range, hence the choice of terroir for the range. The Marathon is sourced from our Tulbagh wine farm, which we chose for its production of grapes with rich flavours and deep colours. Tulbagh in the Breede River Valley has a hot climate that has cool evenings, with decomposed shale soil. The climate lends itself to wine that has richly developed flavours and long-lasting finishes.

It was matured in 50% new, five-year seasoned French oak barrels for 22 months.

The grapes for this sumptuous wine were fermented in small upright French oak barrels, punched-down carefully to avoid over-extracting the wine.

Paserene is a small family operated winery owned by Martin Smith and Ndabe Mareda the sole purpose of which is to produce high-end luxury wines. Great care was given to ensure that the wines produced and artwork on the labels are truly authentic to its “sense of place and people” and will guarantee a lasting legacy. The name Paserene comes from the Latin word Passeriformes the order of traveling and free birds containing swifts and swallows. Paserene is situated in the quaint town of Franschhoek and is home to their award-winning wine range. A professional and contemporary tasting lounge is situated on the property.
