Orpheus & The Raven
“The answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything is 42” – Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. In their search for answers to the great questions of life, Orpheus and the Raven’s eyes were opened by the light of the present. But the curious pair knew that beyond the light, the universe had more to offer. “True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing, Orpheus,” said the Raven. “Then the answer to the ultimate question is obviously 42!” replied Orpheus in delight.
Description
Of all the wines in their collection, Orpheus & The Raven No.42 is the only blend and the flagbearer defining their objective for making wine. The wine is unapologetic and bold, aided by an exceptional vintage bearing a wine with great complexity, intensity, and balance for it to age gracefully. Being a blend of Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, the wine is posed on a delectable combination of black and red fruit, spice and floral notes with a sweet, wet earth character adding to its herbaceous quality. Violets, red plum, dried cranberry, blackcurrant, black cherries, pepper and liquorice, dill and tomato leaf all blends together as the primary aromas leap from the glass. All these vivid nuances are then unified with the smart use of oak, adding chocolate, coconut, and roasted coffee bean aromas. The wine glides over your palate with a burst of cherry fruit and a bright acidity guiding it. The flavour of fried porcini, leather and sandalwood add an ethereal veil while the fine, yet sturdy, polished tannin lace it all in together. A class act, celebrating these grape varietals from an exchanting start to persistent finish. Just as Pinot Noir and Cinsaut brought its unique characteristics to the crossing of Pinotage, so too is its contribution in No.42. While Pinotage was primarily responsible for structure and vibrant oak notes, Pinot noir and Cinsaut contributed elegance and Old World sensibility. Ripe plum and cherry fruit on the nose with a hint of toasty oak. The entry on the palate is silky and elegant, and the finish is enhanced by a velvety tannin structure and modern oak flavours.
