Nose: Red berry fruit such as mulberry, blackberry and some cassis. Together with wet earth and stone notes combine to entice with a very classically styled aroma profile. Palate: Finely tuned tannins interwoven with beguiling flavours of our unique Polkadraai vines make this blend a wonderful first in our portfolio. This is a wine with a very elegantly styled structure, but still one that will test the passage of time and most certainly reward the patience of its holders.

Each parcel was separately fermented in stainless steel red wine fermenters. During fermentation we did a light punchdown while spraying some fermenting wine over the skin cake, this makes for an easier punch and a more homogenous extraction. After fermentation, the parcels were aged individually and blended only after 12 months in their respective barrel splits. Only the best barrel quality was used in the blend and the wine was bottled with a full maturation of 16 months.

Being a certified Estate wine, no grapes from any source other than Mulderbosch Estate were used in its production. For the 2021 vintage there were 3 blocks used in its maiden production. Block 9.2 Cabernet franc – This is our premium Single Vineyard Cabernet franc parcel, which time after time, delivers a delicious perfume-rich aromatic Cabernet franc. Block 10.2 Petit Verdot – Sometimes Petit gets used almost as an afterthought by some blenders, but in 2021 it produced such richness and cashmere-like tannins, that we had to use a little more of it. Block 11 Merlot – Not your average Merlot, it’s from Polkadraai, which means more structure, seriousness and oemph, but tempered with finesse and balance.
