Aging for 10 months in older oak ensures that the fruit stays intact, and tannins aren’t dried out. Minimal SO2 was added before bottling in November 2021. Bottle aged for 18 months before release in 2023.

Grapes were 100% destemmed and punched down once a day during spontaneous fermentation. Tannat has naturally strong tannins. By handling grapes gently and minimally, we ensure soft, rounded tannin expression with focus on the marvellous fruit. After fermentation, grapes were pressed lightly and moved to French oak the next day.

We produce small batches of natural wines in a remote, semi-arid, high altitude region of South Africa. Lowerland is a mixed, holistic, family farm that produces a range of soil to soul products in a holistic, integrated flow. Vineyards are certified organic with Ecocert. We collaborate with winemakers who employ natural, Old World techniques such as whole bunch and natural fermentation, basket pressing, manual pump-overs, and gentle maturation in older French oak.
