Leeu Passant
The Leeu Passant winery, based in Franschhoek, was established in 2013 with the purpose of harnessing the most exciting vineyards of the Cape in order to create multi-regional wines from vineyards aimed at expressing the Cape as a whole (not only from Franschhoek). The Name “Leeu Passant” is derived from Heraldry, referring to a ‘passing Lion’ and this is the symbol on the top of the capsule. Chris and Andrea Mullineux search far and wide for the best parcels of grapes for these wines, and make them at the Leeu Passant base, on Leeu Estates.
Description
This Chardonnay has aromas of white pear, yellow grapefruit and a hint of Mebos [salted dried apricot]. The vibrant palate delivers notes of Key lime sorbet and just ripe nectarine, which is followed by layers of stone-fruit and lemon curd. The touch of salinity and a most subtle adornment of oak, are well balanced by a zesty acidity, leading up to a beautifully poised and defined finish. Best served at 10-12°C, this wine will show optimally when decanted within the first 3 years after bottling and will reward if cellared properly over 10 years.
Food Pairing
Crab with Cannellini Bean Salad and Citrus Vinaigrette.
