The Pledge Our Origin Sauvignon Blanc

Would go well with any seafood dish, creamy chicken dishes or just a simple salad.

Our winemaker has travelled the wine regions of the Western Cape to source small parcels of Sauvignon Blanc that express the true terroir of each region. Each plot is selected to represent the variety of styles that South Africa prides itself on. The Pledge is a carefully crafted blend of these different wines from different regions. Vineyard Parcels: Lutzville, St Helena Bay, Ceres, Darling, Durbanville, Stellenbosch, Elgin, Botriver, Stanford and Sundays Glen.

Each parcel is hand-sorted and pressed separately before being transferred to separate tanks for fermentation. After vinification, the 10 parcels are blended to showcase the best aspects of Sauvignon Blanc with no one area dominating or overpowering the other.

Le Grand Domaine is situated at the top of beautiful Devon Valley, overlooking the majestic Stellenbosch mountains. Devon Valley is one of Stellenbosch’s best-kept secrets, both scenically and viticulturally. Vines have flourished here since the 18th century and it has an enviable reputation, not only for the red wines that are made here, but also as a source of premium grapes. The Devon Valley was demarcated in 1997, within the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin. The valley is open to the south and demarcated by low hills on the other sides. We practice clonal selection for the newly replanted vineyards. Our aim is to recognise why some traditional practices work, including Massal Selection, so that our vineyards are unique to the terroir. With its rare microclimate and terroir, Le Grand Domaine is ideally suited to red Bordeaux cultivars.
