A symphony of vineyard sites on the slopes of the Simonsberg and Klapmuts Hill. The Cabernet Sauvignon is from an elevated, east-facing vineyard, characterised by slow ripening and intense, bold flavours. The selected Merlot barrels are from an old vineyard, planted on the lower slopes of the estate in 1984. The Cabernet Franc is on planted on a steep, north-facing ridge on the lower slopes of Klapmutskop. The Petit Verdot is planted on a rather flat site on the northern part of Le Bonheur, characterised by duplex soil, with clay in the subsoil. The 2019 vintage stands out in terms of freshness and elegance. The Le Bonheur wines from this vintage boast natural acidity and crispness. Phenolic ripeness was attained at lower sugar levels resulting in wines with lower alcohols.

Le Bonheur

Le Bonheur has a rich winemaking history dating back to the late 1700s. The estate’s spirit of a journey to happiness dates back to an era when the estate was a trading post for French Huguenots travelling between Cape Town and Franschhoek. The property soon gained a reputation as a lush place of solace and social gathering, which led to the Estate’s name: Le Bonheur, meaning happiness. Today Le Bonheur brings the name it was given by the French settlers to life, by contributing to everyday happiness through simple moments of sharing and enjoying great wines.
