The year 2000 presented a challenging climate in Champagne, with a warm and wet winter followed by a similarly wet spring. A sudden heatwave in May led to rapid flowering around mid-June. However, July brought cold and rainy conditions, including local hailstorms. Despite these challenges, Krug's meticulous vineyard management ensured the production of high-quality grapes.

The Krug Vintage 2000 underwent over a decade of aging in Krug's cellars before release. It is recommended to be enjoyed now through 2030, with a potential peak between 2025 and 2028.
