Kakebeenwa
Kakebeenwa tells the story of a journey. Kakebeenwa takes its name from the ox wagons of South Africa’s early pioneers – enduring symbols of resilience, grit and the courage to venture into the unknown. They carried families, hopes and precious cargo across untamed landscapes – relying on patience rather than speed, and determination rather than certainty. That same pioneering spirit lives on in South Africa’s Certified Heritage Vineyards, where weathered, low-yielding vines have stood firm against time for more than half a century. Their deep roots and quiet resilience produce wines of remarkable depth, authenticity and character. Our first Kakebeenwa release comes from Grenache Noir vines planted in 1973 on the high altitude slopes of Piekenierskloof. These ungrafted bush vines have spent over five decades adapting to the elements, their roots reaching ever deeper into the sandy soils that give this wine its unmistakable sense of place. The result is a beautifully poised expression of Piekenierskloof Grenache Noir. More than a wine, Kakebeenwa is a tribute to heritage, perseverance and place. Honest and expressive, each release is shaped by the land and the seasons, revealing layered texture, quiet elegance and a lasting sense of depth. Some journeys are measured in kilometres. The best are measured in generations.
