The grapes were selected from various vineyards that are located in the Stellenbosch region (Syrah), Breedekloof region (Mourvèdre) and Piekenierskloof region (Grenache). The different soil types and climatic conditions allow for warmer fruit flavors, as well as adding complexity to the wine.

The wine is transferred to 300L French oak barrels for 18 months (30% new oak) for further barrel maturation.

The Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache were all hand-harvested, destemmed and crushed separately. The grapes are fermented in open-top fermentation tanks with pump-overs and punch-downs daily. Each variety is individually vinified. A period of post-fermentation maceration is encouraged for a gentle extraction of tannin and to soften existing tannins. Half of the Grenache undergoes whole bunch fermentation to enhance the ripe red fruit flavours of the grape.

Guardian Peak wines were conceived in 1998 by Jean Engelbrecht who combined his knowledge and understanding of international wine markets with his experience and involvement at his family wine estate Rust en Vrede in Stellenbosch. The objective was to create a range of wines that should be accessible to the consumer in both style and price. Grapes for Guardian Peak are sourced from the Breedekloof and Stellenbosch appellations where we enjoy long-term contracts with respected growers. More importantly we view our contracts as relationships whereby both parties benet mutually. Two decades later and our beliefs remain to produce approachable sustainable wines of consistent quality allowing our consumer to experience value and enjoy them as often as we do.
