Frescobaldi

The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of Italy's oldest wineries with a history dating to the 1300s. The family has included medieval knights bankers lawyers and patrons of the arts. The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of the most significant wine producers in Italy with nine estates—and roughly 2 500 acres—in Tuscany. The family has been growing wine since the late 19th century when they became the first in Tuscany to import and plant French vine cuttings. Because they have been producing wines for more than 700 years to experience Frescobaldi is to glimpse the history of Florence from the Middle Ages to the present day. Wine Spectator has ranked many of their offerings in the 90s and their wines are consistently listed in the magazine's Top 100 Wines of the Year encouraging wine enthusiasts from around the globe to become familiar with some of Italy's finest wines.

Castiglioni Chianti 2020

Sangiovese Blend from Tuscany, Italy

Chianti Castiglioni 2020 is a wine with astunning ruby red colour and shades of purple. It has a pleasantly fruity bouquet, with notes that bring to mind strawberry, marascacherry, raspberry and fig; the fruit is accompanied by delightful floral and Mediterranean aromas. The delightful spicy note is also pleasant, with elegant fragrances of pepper and cloves. It offers a delightful vivacity on the palate. The finale is long, clean-cut and delicate, with aremarkable taste-olfactory conformity.

Following a mild winter, the vines sprouted in early April, just afew days earlier than expected. Overall, April was clear and reasonably cool, contributing to a moderate growth under dry conditions. Flowering occurred around the last week in May, a period in which the climate was always mild and slightly windy; this resulted in an excellent fruit set. From April to August, there were some quite heavy rainfalls, with aslight peak in June; during the months of vegetative expression, the water supplies were always in proportion to demand (neither drought nor excessive rainfall). Veraison took place from the last week in August onwards, and was followed by a gradual ripening in September. The Sangiovese and Merlot were harvested from mid-September onwards. There were magnificent concentrations of fruit and with excellent aromatic intensity.

Nipozzano Riserva 2019

Nipozzano 2019 has a vibrant ruby-red colour. The nose presents fruity hints of berries and black cherry, as well as elegant floral notes. The fresh quality provided by the balsamic notes is simply wonderful. These are followed by roasted and spiced notes of pepper, nutmeg and coffee. On the palate, the wine is rich, characterised by the elegant density of the grapes and the mineral freshness of the finish that make it balanced and persistent. The tannins are dense but not abrasive. The taste and smell correspond beautifully.

At Castello Nipozzano, winter 2019 saw extended periods of sunshine with low temperatures. Spring, however, was cool and the rain that had fallen ensured good water reserves to cope with the hot summer days to come. Summer saw temperature changes that helped cool the vineyard overnight, and the typical breezes from the slopes of the Apennines provided a notable contribution. As such, the grapes were blessed by a combination of warm sunshine and refreshing breezes while ripening. The bunches were perfectly healthy when harvested and the produce resulted in wines with the typical qualities of the area, characterised by both decent acidity and silky-smooth tannins.

Montesodi 2017

Red Blend from Tuscany, Italy

Nipozzano 2017 conveys the intense, harmonious character of the vintage with personality, translating the heat of the season into the glass. The ruby-red colour is bright and intense. The usual notes of red fruits and citrus are expressed in a seductive combination of elegance and intensity. Tertiary notes due to ageing, such as spices and vanilla, enhance the aromas and balance the tasting experience. The palate is rich, dense and balanced, with a great expression of maturity, polyphenolic elegance and final persistence.

Winter 2017 was mild and dry. In spring, the early sprouting of the vines brought the growing season forward. During spring, the arrival of sporadic rains restored the vineyards' water table, guaranteeing a good blooming, still ahead of time with respect to the previous season. The 2017 harvest began at the end of August, after a hot, dry summer that led to the harvesting of well -ripened grapes, qualitatively rich in body and colour.
