Flagstone Winery
Flagstone is a winemaker-driven wine business, rather than a marketing-led business. This means we first do what is right for the grapes and the wine and only then worry about how to sell the gorgeous stuff. More than most, we are totally committed to making honest, real wine that is an authentic reflection of its provenance, even if this means taking the hard path. We believe that this is the only sustainable, honourable way. Take time to discover our wines – We are all born creative. We have been sourcing grapes from our five core vineyards since 2003. Viticultural strategies are specifically tailored to individual varieties and vineyard parameters. The natural environment in which the vines grow and bear fruit play a huge role in the style and quality of the resultant wine and we go to great lengths to study and know everything we can about that environment. This includes careful soil analysis and an on-going study of climate parameters.
Description
Colour: Clean, brilliant pale with a hint of limey greenness around the rim. Bouquet: Displaying layers of fruit complexity with aromas of asparagus, green fig, citrus, passion fruit as well as a hint of guava. Palate: The complexity of the nose is expressed on the palate giving this full-bodied wine a vibrant acidity and great length.
Food Pairing
The wine pairs amazingly well with shellfish and fish. Steamed mussels in a tomato sauce, crayfish cooked in the shell on the braai, with an olive oil and garlic basting, or even Snoek cooked on the braai, the traditional way with marmalade all go brilliantly. But that’s all sort of expected, I suppose. It’s when the wine can also stand up to a steak sandwich that you really realise the power and structure in this wine.
