Rose

A perfect accompaniment with seafood dishes like grilled salmon and tuna, sushi and peri-peri prawns, as well as salads and quiche. The slight hint of sweetness on the finish lends itself to pair well with spicy dishes and light, aromatic curries too.

Grapes are sourced from a single old vine Pinotage parcel located on the foot of the Helderberg mountain in Stellenbosch. Planted in 1974 these vines are well adapted to the pale granitic soils and constant sea breeze from nearby False Bay. The fruit was picked at two ripeness levels to harness the freshness from earlier pickings and the depth of flavour from later pickings.

In the winery, the whole clusters were gently pressed before natural fermentation, in both stainless steel and oak vessels followed by ageing on the on the lees for 10 months prior to bottling.

Elmie Rosé is the product of a long-held dream to produce a wine of true elegance and verve from the granitic terroirs of Stellenbosch. Together, husband and wife, Etienne and Lizanda Terblanche, set out to showcase a side of Pinotage that is not considered the norm. Striving to weave the subtle thread of place from soil to glass, and only working with small parcels and winemaking on boutique-scale, the petit Maison Terblanche could be the smallest Rosé specialist in South Africa, if not the world!
