Donkiesbaai on the West Coast of South Africa has been the vacation home to the Engelbrecht family for four generations. The grapes for this wine come from the small region of Piekenierskloof. The complexity of this wine comes from the unique Piekenierskloof climate which allows us to produce an elegant yet approachable wine.
Description
Pronounced aromas of zesty red fruit jump from the glass with notes of pomegranate and cranberry combined with soft spicy aromas of cinnamon and paprika. There is an underlying note of blackcurrant as the wine opens. The palate is refreshingly dry with tangy acidity and ripe red fruit lending juiciness. Layers of raspberry, redcurrant and sour cherry are interwoven with gentle spice and a distinctive mineral, earthy character. Fine, low tannins with a touch of stalky spice lead to a savoury finish.
Food Pairing
A versatile, lighter-bodied red that works well with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled pork, game birds, and spice-friendly dishes; it can also suit richer fish and shellfish preparations when served slightly cool.
