Domaine Juliette Avril
Domaine Juliette Avril is a family-run estate with deep roots in France’s Rhône Valley. Their ancestry dates back to 1756 and was involved in the creation of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and its original AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) regulations. The estate is currently run by Marie Lucile Brun who succeeded her mother, Juliette Avril, and Marie’s son, Stephan Brun, who controls the estate’s commercial, administrative and viticulture departments.
Description
Avril’s cuvée tradition, the Chateauneuf du Pape, is a blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, aged in a combination of foudres and cement tanks. Some herbal notes accent raspberries and stone fruit in this full-bodied wine, which is silky enough, with a peppery finish. It’s well made and harmonious, if not particularly intense or long.
Food Pairing
Try this wine with roasted and spiced vegetable-driven dishes like Morrocan chicken tagine with olives, lamb dolma (Turkish lamb-stuffed peppers), or smoky cauliflower steaks.
