Nemrac

The Nemrac will pair well with an aged steak or a hearty oxtail stew.

The Nemrac 2021 – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (84%), Petite Verdot (8%) and Shiraz (8 %) fruit. The blend represents 92 % fruit grown in Stellenbosch and 8% from the Paarl region. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot are grown against the Helderberg mountain in highly weathered yellow- to reddishbrown soils with the Shiraz component, grown in Tukulu decomposed granite soils. The average age of the four different varietals comes to 15 years. The Shiraz fruit is grown under dryland conditions.

The individual varietals are matured in French oak barrels for 15 months, blended, and matured for an additional 3 months. The final blend consists of 13% new French oak with the balance matured in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels.

The Nemrac fruit is all handpicked and berry sorted to ensure all the fruit are in perfect condition before the fermentation is initiated. All batches are individually fermented to ensure the purest expression of each varietal. We amplify the varietal expression and flavours with specific winemaking extraction technics in the cellar. Our aim is always to showcase the natural sweet edge of each varietal, fused with the varietal character.

Carmen Stevens Wines was established in 2011 with our maiden vintage in 2014. Carmen Stevens has been in the South African Wine Industry since qualifying in 1995. Carmen graduated as the first black South African to study the art of winemaking in South Africa. In January 2019, Carmen registered the first 100% black-owned winery in South Africa in the picturesque Stellenbosch. We celebrate each growing season by highlighting the attributes that Mother Nature gives us with each vintage. Our work is to accentuate the positive attributes of the specific year and display these characteristics in full to the wine enthusiast. Each bottle of Carmen Stevens Wines is truly handmade, and we are committed to only using plant-derived additives that ensure our wines can be enjoyed by all. We source our fruit from a range of grape-growing regions with exceptional vineyards, enabling us to celebrate the array of soil types of South Africa, each adding its unique touch to our wines. Individual small batches of wines are handmade and blended later to heighten what we strive to showcase in each vintage.
