Upper H&A Chardonnay

Bosman Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Chardonnay 2022 pairs beautifully with dishes such as cold meat terrine, grilled fish, and creamy risotto. Its balanced acidity and creamy finish make it versatile for both lighter fare and richer dishes​.

This Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards located in the cool-climate Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, known for its unique combination of maritime influence and stony, clay-rich soils. These conditions are ideal for growing Chardonnay, contributing to the wine's fresh acidity and complex flavor profile​.

The winemaking process for the 2022 vintage includes hand-sorting of the grapes, followed by destemming and gentle pressing. The juice is then settled overnight. Fermentation occurs in a combination of new and neutral French oak, with 15% of the wine aged in new ceramic toasted oak barrels for eight months. This process enhances the wine's creamy texture and integrates subtle oak nuances without overwhelming the fruit​.

The Bosman family have a history of growing wine in the Bovlei of Wellington, dating back to 1810. Throughout eight generations they have worked hard to create a better life for all who live and work on the farm, rising to challenges and finding solutions, often in the unexpected. Wine is made in their historic 260 year old cellar, but their approach is progressive and innovative: a plant improvement unit ensures that Bosman remains at the forefront of the development of new, clean plant material and varietals; while their vine nursery ensures a continuous supply of healthy rootstock and vines.
