Nero D'Avola

The Bosman Nero d'Avola pairs beautifully with robust dishes such as beef, venison, and full-flavored Italian meals like arancini or caponata. It can also complement spicy, aromatic dishes like Asian pork belly.

Nero d'Avola is a Sicilian grape variety that has been cultivated in South Africa's Wellington region by Bosman Family Vineyards. The vines, originally imported from Sicily in 2004, were selected for their resilience to hot, dry conditions, making them well-suited for the South African climate.

This wine is not heavily oaked, allowing the natural fruit flavors to shine through. The drinking window for the 2021 vintage is from 2022 to 2025.

The wine underwent traditional winemaking processes, highlighting minimal intervention to preserve the pure expression of the fruit. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and underwent maturation to develop its full flavor profile.

The Bosman family have a history of growing wine in the Bovlei of Wellington, dating back to 1810. Throughout eight generations they have worked hard to create a better life for all who live and work on the farm, rising to challenges and finding solutions, often in the unexpected. Wine is made in their historic 260 year old cellar, but their approach is progressive and innovative: a plant improvement unit ensures that Bosman remains at the forefront of the development of new, clean plant material and varietals; while their vine nursery ensures a continuous supply of healthy rootstock and vines.
