Boekenhoutskloof
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Grenache Semillon and Viognier.
Description
The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2021 is characterized by a deep, dark purple color, almost opaque. The nose offers an intense bouquet of dark fruits like blackberries and blueberries, complemented by aromas of violets, peppercorns, and smoked meats. There are also subtle hints of vanilla, cloves, and dark chocolate. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied and rich, with firm but well-integrated tannins. It showcases flavors of ripe plums, black cherry, and peppery spice, finishing with a touch of minerality and a lingering, savory note.
Food Pairing
This Syrah pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes like grilled lamb chops, beef stew, or braised short ribs. Its savory notes and firm structure also complement game meats such as venison or duck. For a vegetarian option, try it with a rich mushroom risotto or grilled eggplant with a smoky tomato sauce. The wine's complexity and spice profile make it a great match for a wide range of flavorful dishes.
