Boekenhoutskloof
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Grenache Semillon and Viognier.
Description
Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 showcases a deep, garnet color with a vibrant ruby edge. The nose is expressive, featuring rich aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, and dark cherries, interwoven with hints of graphite, cedar, and tobacco leaf. Subtle notes of vanilla, baking spices, and a touch of cocoa add complexity to the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and elegant, with firm, velvety tannins and a well-balanced acidity. Flavors of ripe blackberries, plum, and dark chocolate dominate, with underlying earthy tones and a long, structured finish marked by hints of oak and spice.
Food Pairing
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs excellently with rich, flavorful dishes. It is a natural match for grilled meats such as ribeye steak, lamb chops, or a hearty beef stew, as the wine's structure and tannins complement the protein and fat in these dishes. It also works well with game meats like venison or ostrich. For a vegetarian option, try it with a roasted portobello mushroom burger or a black bean and quinoa chili. The wine’s complex flavors also pair nicely with aged cheeses, such as a mature cheddar or gouda.
