The grapes are sourced from select parcels in Stellenbosch, particularly from the Helderberg mountain and Polkadraai Hills. These vineyards are planted on decomposed granite, Table Mountain sandstone, and "koffieklip" soils, with the cool maritime influence from nearby False Bay aiding in the wine’s minerality and distinct graphite profile​.

22 months in 65% new light-toast French oak.

The wine was matured for 22 months in 65% new, light-toast French oak barrels from Sylvain and Saury cooperages. The OXOline barrel system was employed for maturation, which ensures a balance between oak influence and preservation of fruit character​.

Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Grenache Semillon and Viognier.
