Boekenhoutskloof
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Grenache Semillon and Viognier.
Description
Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 boasts a deep ruby color with an inviting intensity. The nose opens with an array of ripe dark fruits, including blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, and hints of mint. Subtle undertones of dark chocolate, pencil shavings, and graphite add complexity. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with a plush texture, exhibiting firm yet polished tannins. Flavors of black cherry, cassis, and spice dominate, while a touch of minerality adds depth. The finish is long and refined, leaving lingering notes of oak and a gentle earthiness.
Food Pairing
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a versatile wine that pairs well with rich and flavorful dishes. It complements grilled and roasted red meats, such as beef steaks, lamb shanks, and venison, where its tannins and full body stand up to the flavors. It is also a good match for hearty stews like beef bourguignon or coq au vin. For vegetarian options, try it with a rich mushroom and truffle risotto or a lentil and vegetable casserole. The wine's bold character pairs nicely with aged cheeses, such as blue cheese or a sharp cheddar.
