Sauvignon Blanc

Best enjoyed next to the ocean with freshly-harvested shellfish.

Discover a place of whales and wonder, where wines are born from rocky limestone soil in a remote and unspoilt corner of the Cape South Coast. Here vines overcome fierce elements to create fruit with singular character and depth of flavour. Beyond evocative wine, Baleia is also about finding harmony between self, others and nature in pursuit of life's perfect equilibrium.

Grapes were harvested from vines planted in 2010. Picked between 6am and 10am to ensure grapes arrived at the winery below 14°C. Destalked and pressed into a settling tank for 2 days. Clear juice racked to a stainless steel fermentation vessel. A 17 day fermentation took place at 13.5°C.

Situated on the lime-rich soils on the cliff banks of the Duivenhoks River, Baleia is a unique terroir standing alone on this beautiful district of the Cape South Coast. A stone’s throw away from Sebastian’s Bay and the towns of Vermaklikheid and Stilbaai, the wines smell of the ocean!
