Baileys is made by Diageo at Nangor Road, in Dublin, Ireland and in Mallusk, Northern Ireland. It is the original Irish cream, invented by a team headed by Tom Jago in 1971 for Gilbeys of Ireland; Diageo currently owns the trademark.
Baileys is celebrated for its smooth and creamy mouthfeel, making it a popular choice for sipping neat, over ice, or as an addition to coffee and cocktails. It's particularly noted for its versatility in recipes, where it can add a rich, creamy dimension to desserts and drinks.
Nose:
Baileys presents a comforting and rich aroma dominated by cocoa and hazelnut, complemented by the creamy sweetness of condensed milk. The scent is indulgent, reminiscent of a dessert like banoffee pie.
Palate:
On the palate, Baileys is velvety and creamy, delivering a primary taste of sweetness. It opens with flavors of chocolate and hazelnut, followed by notes of almond, cereal, and milk chocolate in the heart.
Finish:
The finish is relatively short with lingering notes of vanilla, whiskey, and a touch of coffee, providing a warm and comforting end to the tasting experience.
