Chardonnay

This oaked Chardonnay pairs exceptionally well with dishes featuring white meats like chicken and pork, especially when prepared with mild, buttery, or creamy sauces. It also complements earthy sides such as mushroom risotto and roasted vegetables. The wine's balance of acidity and gentle oakiness makes it versatile for a variety of dishes.

Sourced from Almenkerk's estate vineyards in the Elgin Valley, the grapes benefit from the region's cool climate, situated 300–500 meters above sea level. The combination of Atlantic breezes, misty mornings, and soils comprising shale, clay, and sandstone contributes to the wine's vibrant acidity and minerality.

The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 10 months, with a portion being new oak. This careful use of oak imparts subtle toasty and vanilla notes without overpowering the fruit character.

Embracing minimalist winemaking, the juice undergoes natural settling after pressing, followed by wild yeast fermentation in French barriques. The wine is then matured for 10 months on the lees, enhancing its mouthfeel and adding layers of complexity.

Almenkerk Wine Estate is a small family-owned wine estate situated in the Elgin valley just east of Cape Town South Africa. The estate is owned by the Belgian/Dutch van Almenkerk family and run by Natalie and Joris van Almenkerk. Whilst Joris has fun making award-winning wines Natalie is in charge of sales and marketing PR and admin. Patriarch Joep helps out with sales frequent wine tastings and as a mentor on the business side. As well as that we have a dedicated group of family and friends that come over to help us out by opening the tasting room when we are not around or assisting with the harvest.
