Chardonnay

This Chardonnay pairs excellently with rich seafood dishes such as cooked shellfish and seared foie gras. It also complements creamy fish preparations, complex salads, and a variety of cheeses.

Sourced from the coolest block of the Almenkerk estate, the vines thrive in clay-loam soils without irrigation. The cool climate of Elgin contributes to the wine's natural acidity and phenolic ripeness, essential for crafting a balanced Chardonnay.

The Chardonnay was aged in French oak barrels, with 40% being new oak. This regimen imparts subtle vanilla and toasty notes, balancing the wine's fruit-forward character.

Embracing minimalist winemaking, the grapes underwent natural settling post-pressing, followed by wild yeast fermentation in French oak barriques. The wine matured for 10 months on the lees, enhancing its mouthfeel and adding layers of complexity.

Almenkerk Wine Estate is a small family-owned wine estate situated in the Elgin valley just east of Cape Town South Africa. The estate is owned by the Belgian/Dutch van Almenkerk family and run by Natalie and Joris van Almenkerk. Whilst Joris has fun making award-winning wines Natalie is in charge of sales and marketing PR and admin. Patriarch Joep helps out with sales frequent wine tastings and as a mentor on the business side. As well as that we have a dedicated group of family and friends that come over to help us out by opening the tasting room when we are not around or assisting with the harvest.
