Winemaker's comments:

Crimson red. Gentle floral aromas of violets and jasmine are backed by hints of fresh leather and tobacco leaf, mulberries and forest floor. The palate replicates the nose with earthy flavours brought forward by dark fruits which include blueberries and blackcurrant, all integrating well to create a lengthy finish with soft velvety tannins.

100% Syrah

Rating:

91 Points - Tim Atkin 5 Stars - Platter's

Specifications:

14.27% alc vol Sugar g/l: 2.8
Type: Red Wine Maturation Potential: 10 to 15 yrs
Origin: Stellenbosch Appellation: Stellenbosch

Winemaker's comments:

‘From granitic soils, this single vineyard Syrah displays its hallmark intensity of colour, aromatics and flavours handsomely. Concentrated aromatics of blackberries, blueberries and plums flourish alongside flavours of star anise, black pepper and cloves. Sweet tobacco and vanilla pod oak are lavished on both the nose and the palate and nicely compliments the opulent fruit. This is a seductive wine from the 2016 vintage, which with its abundance of fruit and inherent structure, will allow it to age a decade or longer without difficulty.’ Jolette Steyn (Wine Cellar)

Cultivar:

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Rating:

5 Stars - Platter's 92 Points - Tim Atkin

Specifications:

14.22% alc vol Sugar g/l: 2.7
Type: Red Wine Maturation Potential: 15 yrs
Origin: Stellenbosch Appellation: Stellenbosch

Winemaker's comments:

The epitome of the Helderberg and what it means for Cabernet Sauvignon fruit show in this wine. Decidedly dense black fruit, such as brambles and blackcurrant combine effortlessly with tobacco, forest floor, graphite and smokiness on the nose and the palate. It is a muscular wine where the concentration of the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit matches the tannin and spice brought on by the skins and oak. It finishes firm and fresh. It’s a complex, moreish wine that allows 2016 to show its fruit.

Cultivar:

61% Syrah, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon

Rating:

5 Stars - Platter's 92 Points - Tim Atkin

Specifications:

14.31% alc vol Sugar g/l: 2.6
Type: Red Blend, Red Wine Maturation Potential: 15 yrs+
Origin: Stellenbosch Appellation: Stellenbosch

Winemaker's comments:

‘Trademark Rust en Vrede opulence meets restraint and elegance. Together in the bottle, Rust en Vrede’s two single vineyards – Syrah (majority) and Cabernet Sauvignon – sing and dance. The nose abounds with violets, black pepper and fresh black cherries with leather, black olives turned earth and liquorice added upon second swirl. The 2016 is lighter than both the 2015 and 2014 and beautifully so. The powerful palate matches the nose in both intensity and depth showing plush dark fruit and oak spice, intermingled with rooibos tea, cured meat and dried herbs. The immense tannin structure from the Cabernet Sauvignon and fruit and spice form the Syrah ensure that this wine will age well over the next decade. Classy.’ - Jolette Steyn
