Tanqueray is a renowned British gin brand that was established in 1830 by Charles Tanqueray in the Bloomsbury district of London. The brand is particularly noted for its forward-thinking approach to gin distillation, which was somewhat revolutionary at the time, incorporating exotic botanicals from around the world. After the original distillery was severely damaged during World War II, production moved to Scotland.
Tanqueray Nº Ten is celebrated for its exceptionally refined and balanced flavor profile, primarily distinguished by a vibrant citrus character. It's an ultra-premium gin that has been crafted with a meticulous attention to detail, using whole citrus fruits like white grapefruit, lime, and orange, along with juniper and chamomile, to create a distinctive taste. This gin is distilled in a small copper pot still named "Tiny Ten," which is central to its unique flavor creation.
Nose:
The aroma is marked by a tangy and vibrant mix of citrus fruits, predominantly grapefruit, alongside soft floral notes of chamomile. This bouquet is underpinned by a clear presence of juniper, creating a refreshing and enticing introduction.
Palate:
On the palate, Tanqueray Nº Ten is smooth and nuanced. The bright citrus flavors lead, supported by a subtle sweetness and botanical complexity that includes chamomile and a crisp juniper backbone. This combination delivers a refined and layered taste profile, perfect for savoring.
Finish:
The finish is clean and crisp, with a continuation of the citrus and juniper themes. There is a slight spice and bitterness towards the end, which complements the overall refreshing character of the gin. The finish is lasting and leaves a pleasant, invigorating aftertaste.
