Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert who passed away in 2001 the farm was eventually taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003 and the brand named after him. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility catapulting the farm into a prestigious wine estate and the beginnings of what is now a sprawling enterprise. The focus is on terroir specific wines and therefore the ranges are made from a number of sites. Each site offers optimum varietal specific growing conditions allowing Anthonij Rupert Wyne to adhere to the requirements of their different brands.
Sagnac is the name given to a Armagnac produced in South Africa ie South African Armagnac. Armagnac is a brandy produced by a distilling wine. The grapes used are usually Ugni Blanc, Colombard & Folle Blanche. Armagnac is produced by a column still method (single distillation) as opposed to the potstill method (double distillation) which is used in making Cognac. Armagnac is generally considered more flavourful compared to Cognac. It is also a purer product which does not have any added flavour or colour enhancers.
Nose:
Flavours of praline, brûléed sugar or dark caramel are discernible alongside the apricot, dried citrus peel and roasted nuts.
Palate:
Aromas of apricot fruit leather, caramel and polished oak with a touch of resin. The palate is rich and spirited with lovely warmth and breadth. Smooth textured and polished, it is refined and cohesive.
Finish:
There’s even a suggestion of ginger preserve. Beautiful integration of oak and spirit which makes the rich flavours linger long.
