The uniqueness of our pot malt stills rest in the cylindrical necks of the spirit stills. Traditionally the necks of malt stills are open. The Loch Lomond stills include special distillation trays in the necks, allowing for greater contact with the cooling alcohol vapour. This makes the process more efficient. These stills can produce alcohol up to 90% ABV where normal stills deliver the alcohol at around 70% ABV. This style of still allows for different ‘flavour notes’ to be captured and emphasised through the range of alcohol strengths that can be captured and rejected. This is much more difficult to achieve through a conventional pot still.
Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 18 Year Old Single Malt offers a rich sensory experience, characterized by a sophisticated and aromatic profile. The nose is an inviting mix of hobnobs and whole grain cookies, accompanied by notes of cinnamon bark and broken branches, suggesting a deeply natural and woodsy ambiance. Caramel-coated almonds and hazelnuts follow, enriched by overripe oranges and a fresh hint of mint. The palate is sweet and complex, featuring pear drops, caramel, toffee, and hints of tinned pineapple, all beautifully integrated with the rich flavours of commercial coffee, vanilla syrup, chocolate chips, and gingerbread spices. The finish is long and satisfying, with enduring notes of milk chocolate, hazelnuts, and a warming touch of ginger, which leaves a lasting impression. This whisky exemplifies the unique character and excellence of Loch Lomond’s Inchmurrin range.
