Kilbeggan is an iconic Irish whiskey brand known for its rich history and distinctive smooth taste. Founded in 1757, Kilbeggan Distillery is the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland, located on the River Brosna in Kilbeggan, County Westmeath. The whiskey itself is celebrated for its double-distillation process in traditional copper pot stills, which is less common compared to the triple-distilled method typical in Ireland. This process imparts a unique character to the whiskey, marked by a mellow smoothness and a rich array of flavours including sweet malt, fruit, and a hint of spice.

Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey exhibits a pleasantly smooth and complex profile. The nose is subtle and diverse, featuring aromas of caramel, grassy notes, and vanilla, reminiscent of new suede shoes. On the palate, it reveals a surprisingly complex character, possibly due to the bourbon cask influence, with flavours of caramel and a hint of currants, along with a cooling sensation that might remind one of eucalyptus. The finish is smooth with a mild warmth that does not overpower the subtleties of the whiskey.

Nose:

The aroma of Kilbeggan is multi-layered, starting with a strong presence of cereal grains. It evolves into a richer bouquet with hints of creamy dairy notes, orange blossom, apricot, and green apple, complemented by a touch of almond and spice, which rounds out the complex nose.

Palate:

The taste of Kilbeggan begins with a cereal dominance that transitions into lemon and yogurt, enhancing the mouthfeel and leading to significant salivation. This develops into toasted nuts and white bread draped in a honey sweetness. The overall mouthfeel is light initially but becomes richer and more enveloping, distinguishing it from more typical Irish whiskies.

Finish:

The finish of Kilbeggan is calm and collected, characterized by a light tannic dryness and a hint of green tea, which complements its smooth and slightly sweet character.
