The Isle of Jura Distillery, located on the Isle of Jura in the Inner Hebrides off the West Coast of Scotland, is known for its distinctive range of single malt Scotch whiskies. Founded in 1810, the distillery underwent a significant transformation in 1963 to modernize its facilities. This was driven by the need to help revive the local community by providing employment and preventing depopulation.
This whisky, crafted using a mix of peated and unpeated spirit, starts its aging process in first-fill ex-bourbon American white oak barrels, followed by a finish in six types of French oak, which include Vosges, Limousin, Tronçais, Allier, Jupilles, and Les Bertranges.
Nose:
Features apples, malty notes (such as porridge), and a bit of candied ginger, along with honey and fresh, slightly sour apricots. There are also traces of oranges, raspberry jam, nutmeg, and almonds.
Palate:
The taste is somewhat diluted but includes a woodiness characteristic of the oak, with milky notes and a sour edge. There is a hint of smoke, toffee, and fruit tea, along with cloves and nutmeg.
Finish:
Medium length, characterized by woodiness with elements of apples and mocha.
