Jose Cuervo is one of the oldest and most renowned tequila brands in the world, with a rich history that dates back to 1795 when Jose María Guadalupe de Cuervo began commercially selling tequila after receiving an official charter from the King of Spain. The brand's origins trace even earlier to 1758, when José Antonio de Cuervo was granted land by King Fernand VI to plant agave.
Jose Cuervo Especial Gold, often known simply as Cuervo Gold, is a golden-style joven tequila. It combines reposado (aged) and younger tequilas, leading to its characteristic light gold color, which is partly due to caramel coloring. This tequila is specifically popular for use in cocktails like Margaritas, where its flavor profile can be complemented and balanced by other ingredients.
Nose:
The initial aromas offer a noticeable sharp alcohol presence with underlying hints of orange peel and a sweet touch reminiscent of confectioners' sugar.
Palate:
Dominated by a strong sugary sweetness and significant alcohol burn. There are minimal to no agave flavors present, which is typical for a mixto tequila where agave purity is not the focus.
Finish:
The finish introduces a bitter, astringent herbal quality, evolving into notes of grapefruit and cracked black pepper that leave a lingering alcohol aftertaste.
