The Forrester Family loves the bush and are frequent visitors. In 2020 the SA wine industry
was severely affected by the lockdown and alcohol prohibition leading to Ken having
tanks of wine without being able to distribute. As any entrepreneur would, this was
the seed to begin a new venture, distilling some of the wine into gin. It was however
while visiting the Kruger that the true identity of the gin was born. Ken and Teresa were
having breakfast when a fruit fell onto their table. Ken started asking the lodge staff
about the fruit, whether it was edible and what it tasted like. The team shared their
childhood connections and memories of climbing Jackalberry trees to retrieve the fruit.
Ken loved the stories and the taste of the Jackalberry so much that he decided to
weave it into his new endeavour.
