The rich diversity of Hampden Estate’s rums comes, amongst many different factors, from the large array of marks produced by the distillery. Each mark corresponds to a newly made spirit with specific, idiosyncratic characteristics of style, aromatic intensity, flavour profile, body and structure, obtained by respecting a certain formula in terms of raw materials used, fermentation time, methods, and distillation.
Hampden Estate 8 Year Old is celebrated for its robust and funky Jamaican profile. This rum combines deep baking spice aromas with the unexpected twist of banana skins, setting the stage for a complex sensory experience. The palate is introduced with a potent mix of coffee and smoky notes, paired with a tannic grip that adds depth to the tasting experience. This full-bodied rum, aged for eight years, carries through with rich flavours, ending with a slightly toasty and chewy sensation, marked by undertones of cooked pineapple and peach, mingling with almond on the finish.
Nose:
The nose is rich with an intense bouquet of caramelized apples and sweet spices, which is lightly touched by smokiness. This aromatic complexity makes it quite inviting and perfectly foreshadows the rum's vibrant taste profile.
Palate:
The palate of this rum is lively and full, beginning with dominant notes of toasted bread and toasted coconut which then transition into a more subdued fruitiness, characterized by cooked pineapple and peach. This is complemented by a nutty, almost sesame-like finish that is both unique and memorable.
Finish:
The finish is lingering and enticing, presenting a waxy texture that leaves a lasting impression. The toasty and subtly fruity notes persist, providing a well-rounded and satisfying sipping experience.
