Green Spot was originally produced exclusively for the Mitchell family who, commenced trading in 1805 on 10 Grafton St. in the heart of Dublin city as purveyors of fine wines and confectionary. Four generations later, the company is still in the wine and spirits business, under the stewardship of Jonathan Mitchell and his son Robert. The Mitchell family expanded into whiskey bonding in 1887, whereby they sent empty wine, sherry and port casks via horse and cart to the local Jameson Distillery, which were then filled and returned to the Mitchell’s cellar warehouse. There, the whiskeys matured for many years under bond until they were ready to be bottled and sold.
Green Spot is a single pot still Irish whiskey with a complex and inviting profile. The whiskey presents a vibrant amber colour, indicative of its richness. The aromas burst with a bright medley of tropical fruits such as guava and papaya, alongside golden raisin and a candy-like green apple scent, which creates a tantalizing nose. The palate offers a thicker, rounder mouthfeel compared to single malts, featuring dark, prune-like fruit notes at the forefront, followed by a spicy yet not overly sweet ensemble of cinnamon, vanilla, and brown sugar reminiscent of snickerdoodle cookies. A subtle grassy note complements the fruitiness, adding depth and balance.
Nose:
The nose is rich with a refreshing and sweet tropical character, highlighted by peppermint, creamy vanilla, and citrus, alongside malt and sweet barley. This combination provides a delightful and engaging aromatic experience.
Palate:
On the palate, Green Spot shows a soft spiciness and gentle bourbon oak notes. The presence of green woods and menthol alongside potpourri offers a refreshing yet complex taste, making each sip a discovery of new flavours.
Finish:
The finish of Green Spot is creamy and long, leaving a pleasing aftertaste of vanilla that lingers, complemented by malty undertones and a subtle touch of oak, which rounds out the drinking experience.
