In 1973, Nonino became the first company to produce a commercial grappa from a single grape variety by creating a liquor using only the Picolit grape. In 1984, the company produced the first whole-grape distillate, which they marketed as Ue. Nonino also founded the International Nonino Prize literary prize.
Grappa Nonino Tradizione 43° is a white grappa produced from selected pomace of both white and red grapes originating from the Friuli region. This grappa is characterized by its traditional and elegant profile, offering a unique sensory experience that reflects the rich viticultural heritage of the area. The fragrance combines the warmth of bread crust with the intriguing depth of licorice, encapsulating the essence of its carefully chosen ingredients. Distilled using artisanal methods in copper batch steam stills, this grappa adheres to the ancient Nonino Family tradition, ensuring a product of the highest quality and purity.
Nose:
The initial aroma offers a warm and comforting embrace of bread crust, immediately signaling the grappa's depth and complexity. Following closely is a subtle yet distinct hint of licorice, adding an intriguing layer of spice that invites further exploration.
Palate:
Upon the first sip, the grappa reveals a harmonious blend of the traditional flavors for which it is known. The foundational note of juniper is evident, providing a crisp and earthy base. This is elegantly intertwined with the sweet zestiness of orange peel, while the coriander seeds lend a spicy contrast that adds breadth to the tasting experience. The angelica root and cassia bark contribute a slightly woody and warm spice undertone, enhancing the grappa's rich and multidimensional character.
Finish:
The finish is reflective of the grappa's fine craftsmanship, leaving a lasting impression of herbal bitterness that is both elegant and persistent. This bitterness is meticulously balanced, ensuring that the final note is as memorable as the first, with a subtle sweetness that lingers, inviting contemplation and a desire to revisit the experience.
