Bushmills is home to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. Official records stretch back to 1608, when the area was granted its license to distil. Over 400 years later, whiskey is still being made in Bushmills, thanks to experience and craft passed down from generation to generation. We couldn’t make our whiskey anywhere but here. Our water, drawn from the River Bush, flows over beds of basalt rock. Bushmills is more than just a whiskey. It’s a village, where family, friends and neighbours work side by side at the distillery. As we often say, “without the village there would be no whiskey, and without the whiskey there would be no village”. Bushmills is named for the mills that dotted the town all along the River Bush. In the 1850s, the Crown imposed a tax on those distilling in Ireland through a tax on barley. Even then, malted barley was known throughout the world to make the finest whiskey, known as “pure malt” whiskey. When only malted barley is used in distillation, and made at a single distillery, you have the very definition of “single malt” whiskey. That tax, however, forever changed Irish whiskey, as almost every Irish whiskey distillery began substituting corn or other inferior grains for barley. Not Bushmills. To this day, Bushmills continues to distil single malt whiskey at the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery.

Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey offers a rich and immersive tasting experience that is both traditional and inviting. The nose starts with a welcoming array of cooked apples and raisins, accented by a subtle hint of tangerine peel, which merges into deeper honey and floral notes, creating a complex and aromatic start. Moving to the palate, it delivers a blend of vanilla and zesty orange peel, accompanied by a distinct honey sweetness that characterizes the grain's contribution. These elements are beautifully woven with a hint of sherry spice that brings forward flavours reminiscent of Hobnobs and toast. The finish is relatively short but satisfying, marked by a grainy sharpness alongside flavours of oak spice and caramel, providing a balanced and warming end to the tasting journey. This whiskey is known for its deep amber colour and silky texture, making it a favourite to be enjoyed in various ways—neat, on the rocks, or as part of refined cocktails.
