Bombay Sapphire is a brand of gin that is distilled by the Bombay Spirits Company, a subsidiary company of Bacardi, at Laverstoke Mill in the village of Laverstoke in the English county of Hampshire. The brand was first launched in 1986 by English wine-merchant IDV. In 1997 Diageo sold the brand to Bacardi.
Bombay Dry Gin is less floral than its later counterpart, Bombay Sapphire, and it maintains a stronger focus on the classic gin botanicals. It's crafted using eight hand-selected botanicals which are vapor-infused to preserve their delicate aromas and flavors. This process lends the gin a soft yet complex taste that is suitable for a variety of classic cocktails, including Martinis and Gin & Tonics.
Nose:
The aroma of Bombay Dry Gin is distinctly herbal and earthy, with an underlying freshness akin to a freshly potted plant. The scents of juniper are complemented by notes of cedar and Christmas tree sap, providing a robust and aromatic start.
Palate:
On the palate, this gin presents a mild sweetness and a silky, smooth entry. It transitions to a more pronounced herbal quality with hints of juniper, anise, and honeysuckle, adding depth and complexity to its profile.
Finish:
The finish is clean and spicy, with lingering notes of lemon peel and licorice, which adds a refreshing and zesty end to the tasting experience. The finish is notably dry, embodying the traditional characteristics of a London Dry gin.
