Our historical research indicates Benriach Distillery holds the oldest and rarest peated inventory in Speyside, dating back to 1975. Our peat comes from the Highlands of Scotland and imparts a sweet, smoky woodland peat profile to our whisky.
Benriach Smoke Season is a distinctive single malt Scotch whisky, known for its intense peatiness and bold flavors, matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and new American oak casks. This expression stands out with its high ABV and rich, smoky character.
Nose:
The whisky opens with a nose that features smooth campfire smoke and sweetness, accompanied by notes of caramel, candied orange, and some spicy elements like crushed peppercorns, creating an inviting and complex aroma.
Palate:
On the palate, Benriach Smoke Season delivers a robust flavor with peppery spices and burnt bready notes, along with a sweetness that includes crème brûlée and slight youthful hints of pears and sweet lemons. The taste is enriched with caramel and a variety of spices from the oak, leading to herbal notes.
Finish:
The finish is long and dominated by flavors of liquorice and warm smoke, with an additional late hint of dark chocolate, rounding out the intense and smoky experience.
