Aviation American Gin, also known as Aviation Gin, is a brand of gin first produced in Portland, Oregon, by founders Christian Krogstad and Ryan Magarian in 2006. It is owned by the British-based multinational alcoholic beverage maker Diageo. It is produced by House Spirits Distillery.
Aviation American Gin is known for its distinctive and non-traditional profile, which is quite different from classic London Dry gins. It's characterized by a complex array of botanicals that contribute to its unique taste. The primary flavors and aromas you might notice include cedar, star anise, cardamom, and a rich floral presence, with less emphasis on juniper compared to more traditional gins. It's also noted for its spice-forward profile, with elements of licorice and white pepper making it quite vibrant on the palate.
Nose:
The gin presents a complex bouquet that includes cedar, star anise, and cardamom, accompanied by a rich floral aroma and subtle hints of white pepper. It is much more sunny and floral compared to the forest-like notes typical of London Dry gins.
Palate:
On tasting, Aviation Gin is quite flavorful, marked by spicy and peppery notes. The palate experiences a blend of licorice, bold cardamom, coriander, and hints of citrus. The flavor profile is notably less juniper-heavy and instead focuses on a variety of spices and a robust botanical presence.
Finish:
The finish is mentholated and floral, with a lingering aftertaste that combines the gin's spice elements with a cooling sensation. It leaves a light and pleasing coat on the tongue, maintaining the gin's characteristic spice till the end .
